I'm running for North Mankato City Council to build a bridge between residents and local government. I believe in having open conversations, accountability, community, and trust. I believe in the community I live in.
We have had projects pushed through without public input. This is evident every time a public hearing and a vote on the public hearing is taken in the same night. I would like to separate the public hearing and the vote. Residents would be able to speak at the public hearing and the vote could be taken at the next meeting. I would like to open the first public comment period up for all matters instead of just agenda items. I would like to extend the talking time as it is just three minutes right now. I would like to hold an open discussion period before each meeting for residents to come and speak with the council. I believe there are many ways communication can be open and more accessible to residents.
There are many ways to establish trust with residents. There are some easy ways to build trust, such as time, effort, and energy. I'm willing to put in the time, effort and energy. I will read the packets, ask difficult questions, and seek resources not presented by staff. I can also be the bridge between residents and local government. If a resident is having a difficult time finding answers or receiving answers, they can reach out to me. I'll be able to help them navigate a difficult system to find the information they are seeking.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
